Theresa is a “dreamer”, passionate about life, health, family, friends, early child education, eco-living, justice, peace & love.
Theresa loves art and nature and grew up in Midtown, Memphis’ thriving arts district. As a child, she wanted to be a ventriloquist and at age 12, started her first job as a newspaper carrier, on her bike, with two prominent Midtown paper routes. She began expressing many of her artistic interests at Immaculate Conception High School for girls where she played sports, was president of the art club and sang in the choir and talent shows.
1981 – The only child of 5 born without Usher’s Syndrome, she attended Memphis State University to pursue a degree in Special Education, with an emphasis on teaching children with hearing disabilities.
1987- present -Theresa, her sisters and her best friend Nikki Schroeder, started their first business, Graffiti Graphics. Services include logo, brand, package, magazine, advertising design and layout for printing.
1992-1994- Co-founded “Memphis Best Dining” with Nikki Schroeder and John Grisanti, a leather bound reference book supplied to all local luxury hotel concierges, complete with menus, photos and contact info of local gourmet restaurants.
2001-present- Co-Founded Jabberblabber Family Magazine. Theresa continues her passion for early child education by publishing Jabberblabber Family Magazine, a free, monthly, educational, activities publication for all ages. For over 18 years, she and co-founder Nikki Schroeder provide 360k hard copies, per year, to their local community with the help of sponsors and partnerships with local city and non profit organizations. 2003 – Voted one of “50 Women who Make a Difference” by Memphis Woman Magazine.
2004 – Recognized by The Memphis Business Journal as “Executive of the Year” in Memphis, one of five to receive this award.
2006 – Theresa and Nikki co-founded Deerwood Forest Eco Friendly community, a 104 acre parcel near Memphis which is currently in pre -construction.
2006-2007- Fellow at The Leadership Academy of Memphis – CAP project, The Urban Child institute – www.theurbanchildinstitute.org
2009-2013- Worked as a part time Atelierista (art teacher) and volunteer at The Natural Learning School’s infant/toddler center www.nlsmemphis.com
Theresa currently resides in Downtown Memphis where she enjoys creating, working, playing, cooking, biking, walking, hot yoga, writing and watching sunsets with her 4 pound Chihuahua, Meme.
Fun Fact: Theresa’s initials are ART spelled backwards.
